3 Bloggers You Absolutely, Without a Doubt MUST Follow in 2012 to Start Crushing It!

YouTube Preview Image

2011 was another outstanding year for me, personally, and as an entrepreneur. I’d like to thank all of you for helping me along the way last year, in whatever way you might have contributed.

It’s now a new year and you’ll be happy to hear that I’ve made some changes to the type of content that I am now going to be focusing on creating here at the blog. I go into a lot more detail about it all in the video above.

However, thats not what this post is really about. It’s about three professional online publishers that, individually are crushing it (and have been for some time!), but collectively, will enable YOU to start doing exactly the same, this coming year.

So, without further ado, I give you…

The Definitive VBL Blog Subscription List

To find out exactly WHY you need to be subscribing to these blogs and following their authors online, watch the video accompanying this post, as the reasons are important! However, if you just want to click, subscribe, and start enjoying their content, here are the links:

Corbett Barr, Pat Flynn, Chris Ducker & David Risley

Myself with Corbett, Pat and David in LA, Nov '11

Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn – @patflynn
Think Traffic by Corbett Barr – @corbettbarr
DavidRisley.com by, er.., David Risley – @davidrisley

Just three blogs, I hear you ask…? Yes, that’s correct.

This doesn’t mean that there are not lots of other, excellent blogs out there that you shouldn’t be checking out (and I’ll no doubt mention lots more in the future), it simply means that these are the three blogs that I personally suggest that you get well and truly stuck into!

Not only are the bloggers themselves all very good friends of mine (as you might be able to tell from all the man-hugging going on in the photo above!), they are also incredibly smart online entrepreneurs in their own right. It’s been said that you become the average of the five people that you spend time with the most. The same can be said for online friends, too, I believe. And these guys make up three of those five people for me!!! So, surround yourself with good online influences, too.

I read a lot of blogs, like most people interested in business. However, when it comes to these three guys, I never miss a single post from any of them…

Special Mention: How to Start a Blog That Matters

Although I’ll be doing a proper run-down on this fantastic new ‘beginners’ course in the next week or so, I wanted to mention that Corbett has just launched his ‘How to Start a Blog That Matters’ course that is absolutely fantastic from what I’ve seen so far. He has helped launch and re-launch so many blogs now its insane – literally hundreds of ‘em, and this new course has some of the best ‘how to’ content I’ve come across.

If you’re looking at launching your first blog, a new blog, or even re-launching a current blog, make sure you go check it out!

Facebook Discussions

One thing I really want to try and make happen this year is better utilization of the VBL Facebook page and its community. It’s been a solid resource, in dribs and drabs over the last year – however, not the most ‘active’ of communities. If I was to be really honest, some of that obviously falls on MY shoulders, as the community leader.

So, I will be making a big effort to focus a little more on the community that we’ve already built up, and try to engage, motivate, inspire and communicate with everyone over there a little more. It’s also the perfect place to ask question, spin around ideas and get general feedback from everyone else in the community, too.

If you’ve not yet already ‘Liked’ the page, please do so now. And while you’re there, drop a comment to everyone introducing yourself, too!

It’s a TRIBE Thing!

I have always commended the VBL Tribe for the excellent advice, resources and general passion for business that you’ve all shared between each other. You are, sincerely, in my eyes, the BEST online community anywhere. Period.

I have plenty of things lined up for the coming months. However, I am now turning to you guys, my tribe, and asking what you would like to see from me, as the owner of the VBL brand. Nothing is off limits, literally.

Please comment below and let me know what you’d like to see in future posts – and any other suggestions in general. I’d highly appreciated…

    Hey Chris

Nice new relaxed style to the post. Using video makes a bunch of sense. Although i have to say do i detect a reduction in your “overhead”? [think about it]

Great blogs you mentioned. Pats a real star for sure and the other guys outstanding.

Looking forward to seeing your launches and whatyou get to do with the facebook page. were nearly 5% of the way throughthe year time to get launching :-)

    regards

    • Hi Steve

Glad you liked the new style video – actually took a little longer to put together, because of the ‘supers’ (technical term for text on the screen!), but well worth it, I think. Yep – a little more relaxed… I enjoyed it.

Lots planned and coming up – although ‘real’ business always takes priority. But, for sure, you will see some serious stuff coming your way in the other 95% of the year!!!

Not only is Pat extremely smart, handsome and witty, but he is also a really nice guy. I can’t remember the number of times he’s helped me out so far.

    Great list.

    Tyrant

    • Hi Tyrant

Thanks for dropping by and commenting – welcome to the VBL Tribe.

Yep, Pat is one of those guys that ‘gives’ selflessly. Not everyone can do that. :-)

      Stay tuned…

      C

      • Pat says:

Okay – now you guys are making me blush.

In all seriousness though, thank you Blog Tyrant, and to you too Chris, of course, for mentioning me here in your video. Means a lot, and I know we shared some awesome experiences last year – hope to do so again this year too.

As always, if there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know. :)

  3. Tung Tran says:

Haha VBL is a must follow too :D I am inspired and motivated by you a lot. I also learn new things from you hehe.

  4. It will be really interesting to see how you focus on startups this year. I always like seeing a bit of “how to” when it comes to the marketing industry.

It can be a big challenge to get people to put their hand in their pocket and pull out their credit card.

    • Indeed, I couldn’t agree more, Mike.

That’s what I’m going to try and focus on for the most part… the ‘How To’, and in a simplistic, almost ‘Beginner’ way.

      Thanks for the feedback, bud.

  5. David Risley says:

    Man-hug! :-)

  6. Great list of bloggers. Their crushing it this year and doing a lot of good as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one Chris.

  7. Benny says:

I’ve been following 3 out of 4 for most of my blogging career. That’s pretty good right? Definitely have learned so much from you, Corbett and Pat!

  8. Keith says:

David is da man! So is Pat, been following most everything both of them have done for a few years. Barr is someone I am aware of, but just haven’t gotten to know that well….

  9. Jeff says:

Good recommendations. I haven’t heard of David before, but enjoyed Corbett’s stuff for a while.

I think your shift toward start-up information this year is a good move, more and more people are wanting to do it.
Out of necessity, more people have no other choice!

    • Hi Jeff!

Appreciate the feedback on my re-focus. It’s going to be fun putting everything together, and I hope I can do the idea justice for everyone. It’s certainly something that I’ve received a butt load of email on over the last year, so I know its ‘needed’ for sure…

Thanks for dropping by, as always.

  10. KC says:

I had not heard of David before, but I have been following Corbett and Pat for a bit. I will check David out for sure.

I love your format with the videos a lot and I think your new focus will be good.

    • Hi KC

Welcome to the VBL Tribe – I believe this was your first time to comment – thank you.

Thanks also for the kind words on the new video format – still playing around a little with concepts and ideas, but I’m enjoying them a lot more, myself, too! :-)

Stay tuned, my man, and once again – welcome.

  11. Anshul says:

Been a regular to Pat’s blog for a while now and yours too Chris (although you forgot to include that in the list;) Interestingly, I first came across the VBL blog through Spencer Hawes Niche Pursuits blog.

Thanks for sharing the other two blogs. I am going to check’em out.

    • Hi Anshul

Glad you came across us – period. Doesn’t matter where from (although Spencers site is great!). Most important thing is that you’re here! :-)

Thanks for the comment and making yourself ‘public’ on the blog. Look forward to more in the future.

      Best,
      C

  12. Pat’s blog is excellent! Will subscribe to the others now. thanks!

  13. Mias Muller says:

    Hi Chris
Very relaxed video, love it !!
I think your onto something with start-up. Massive potential and the best part of it is it is a great way of getting life time value out of a “customer”
I really like the little intro in your vidoe with the music, did you make that yourself or somebody else?
Also, just wondering what your thoughts are from a branding point of view, why not wear a VBL T shirt or something – I’m just wondering if people find the video on youtube for example, that it might help with your branding. Don’t know – is it worth thinking about?

Keep up the good work and I’ll certainly be following your recommendations !!

    • Hi Mias

Thanks for the thumbs up on the new video style!

The intro is done my a video editor that I know. He rocks, but the rest of the editing was actually done by ME. I am learning Screenflow, so that I can then teach someone else how to use it, and get them to do the editing side of things. It’s a little tricky at times, but way better than iMovie.

Branding is more about the PERSON, with blogs, rather than the name, I feel. Although – you never know – perhaps a VBL T-Shirt will hit the virtual shelves soon! :-)

      Appreciate you dropping by.

Excellent review. Thanks for sharing will be looking for big things in 2012 from all of you internet freedom loving hippies.

  15. Sheyi says:

Chris Corbetts course is one of the best thing to happen to bloggers in 2012. I wish him success in it.!

  16. Sergio Felix says:

Whoa… David does looks TALL man!

I already follow these three guys, have to say I normally get overwhelmed with Pat’s stuff though.

I find David’s articles a little bit more easy to digest and I just LOVE the personal blog of Corbett’s plus the Think Traffic articles.

Thanks for sharing your insights here about them Chris, really cool picture too btw!

    Speak soon man.

Your fan/friend in Mexico, Sergio ;-)

  17. Michael Nienhaus says:

    You’re videos are great man…

Ebooks -> Podcasts -> Videos and Apps -> What will be the next on the internet marketing time line ?

    Wish I knew it :)

I learned a lot from you during the past years and I hope also to learn a lot from the other three fantastic bloggers. Hope that I can give all back to you once I’ve started my business.

    Regards Michael

  18. Joe says:

Hi Chris, Totally Agree the three blogs you mentioned totally inspirational, not checked out Corbetts, give it a check out tonight, Michael Dunlop @ Income Diary is a good one I believe as well to subscribe to :)

    Thanks
    Joe

    • Thanks, Joe.

Its a crime that you hadn’t met Corbett yet – but, hey – I reckon you’ve made up for that by being a member of the VBL Tribe instead! :-)

Michael’s blog is also a good read, too – you’re right.

      C

  19. I’m already following all three, and have been reading everything they publish in pretty much the past 2 years and I have to agree they are all in my top 5.
