I first came across my guest today, Gideon Shalwick, when looking for info on improving my videos for this blog. As you know, I like to use video a lot here. I feel its more intimate and definitely more effective when wanting to get personal opinions across – which is kinda what blogging is all about, right!?
Anyway, shortly after subscribing to his newsletter and blog, I was a little taken aback when he signed up for my Virtual Staff Finder service. So, as part of the service, we jumped on the phone and have become good online buddies since.
FACT: Gideon is my ‘Yoda’ when it comes to online video!
In this audio-only podcast you will hear Gideon and I discuss a number of super interesting topics related to the online video space. Including, but not limited to:
- Why video is so powerful and why you shouldn’t leave it off your online agenda!
- What Gideon has been doing lately to take his OWN business to the next level.
- Making sure that your passive income outweighs your expenses to escape the rat-race.
- The phenomenal success behind his Rapid Video Blogging course.
- Different types of cameras to shoot high quality online video clips.
- Tons more ‘insider’ tips on the different type of equipment you’ll need to get started with video blogging and producing online videos for marketing, etc.
- So, so much more…!

You’ll easily see that Gideon really does know what he’s talking about when it comes to creating great online videos to help promote and market your blog or business. Also, as an internet marketer himself, he knows how to do things the RIGHT way for the search engines and to make sure you pop up in YouTube results properly, too.
Rapid Video Blogging
In this personal course which offers step-by-step coaching, Gideon teaches you how to really get going with online video. Whether you’re wanting to simply incorporate video into your blog, build a personal brand using video, market your business, build your email lists fast, or even produce an entire video course yourself, RVB is without a doubt the BEST online video course out there. Hands down.
If you haven’t already done so, you should certainly pop over to Gideon’s site and download your free copy of his RVB eBook. At almost 100-pages, it offers a monster amount of content and will easily get your started on your video making mission!
Then, when you’re ready to take it to the next level check out the Rapid Video Blogging course itself. Trust me. It’s bloody brilliant. (Yes, that’s an affiliate link, and you know you don’t see them very often on this blog. So, please use it if you’re serious. I’ll buy you a beer when we meet face to face!)
I’ve had great success with my online video and I do, genuinely, owe a certain amount of that to Gideon. Don’t get me wrong, my videos are nowhere near as awesome looking as his – but, they work. The techniques I’ve learnt from my Yoda have proved to be spot-on.
Now go learn something from him, yourself…

You know I dont like videos. Sometimes it’s because of something as ridiculous as me not liking their face or their accent or they look too young or too old. I have tried listening to Tyrone Shum but he has a really monotone voice and I just prefer text with bulletpoints. I dont know if I’m weird or I’m a typical consumer…im probably just weird because I read ALOT lol!
Kidding aside the reason I go online is to learn and for retention purposes text is actually much better for me. I wonder if this differs by reasons people choose to go online. Entertainment (such as magic) might be better suited for video.
I think the PERFECT way for me to be sold into something is a good heading that explain the main idea, bullets points that help me decide if I want to read the post (which will include be a helpful overview of concept) and they can add a video going into further detail or giving examples.
The thing I like about this site is that your videos are short, the English accent is fairly understandable, and you include text.
Hi Lucy
Thanks for the comment.
This is the reason why I like to do a little bit of everything at VBL. Written, Video and Audio stuff. I mean, all of the video interviews are always in audio format, too. I’ve thought about getting them transcribed, but as I am now moving towards the half-century mark, it would be a LOT of work – even if I outsourced (which I obviously would!).
I appreciate your feedback, too. As always when any of the VBL Tribe tells me how they feel about digesting my content.
Thanks for dropping by!

Hey Chris,
As I reach for the sky and copy your biz profile, I wonder if my face for radio and voice for books, will work for blogging?
I also want to know if I won the contest for a niche site??
I want to tell my fiance that we are going to be okay in this troubled economy in 13 hours when I land in Arizona.
Thanks for another great post!
Hi Frank
I’ll be announcing the winner to the Niche Site Giveaway on Monday…
Stay tuned.

Hi Chris
Another great post, I’m definitely going to have to put some time aside to listen to this one this weekend, I need the tips!

Hi Grainne
Thanks for the comment.
Ah, yes. A quite hour along with myself and Gideon in your earbuds as you enjoy a cup of tea and a couple of nice biscuits. What more do you need on a weekend…!

I never would have started video blogging on YouTube if it wasn’t for this man… He is awesome.
And I bet youre not the only person that could say that, Michelle.
I hope you are well and that all is good with you, and yours.
C
Thanks for a great podcast.
I can only confirm, that RVB Course if implemented can be a real money printer.
The strangest and less competitive niche /but with the cash flow/ the better your videos works.
Couldn’t agree more, Darek.
Thanks for the comment and welcome to the VBL Tribe.
Stay tuned!

Hey Chris – just following up to find out more about the lapel microphone that Gideon suggested to use with the Kodak Zi8. I think he mentioned it was an Audio Technica. I did a quick search on Google and people seem to be using the Audio Technica ATR 3350 with the Kodak – so I guess this is likely the one he was referring to. Looks like I answered my own question…as you were.
Cheers
Brendon
Hahahaha.
This comment made me smile… “As you were”.
Love it. Yes, I also have the same mic – it takes care of the job!

Chris,
Not sure this is the place, but I’m looking into getting a mac and I’m going back and forth between an air and a pro.
For your mobile lifestyle, does the macbook air really get it done? I prefer the slim design, but I’m worried about it being powerful enough.
I heard you mention it on the podcast and I’m guessing if it gets the job done for you then it will for me too.
Thanks!
Hi JP
What exactly will you be doing on it? If it’s just email and surfing, etc., then the Air is perfect.
If you’re wanting extra battery life and storage space then the Pro is the way to go.
Personally, I love my Air. it’s just so damn mobile.

Thanks for the reply, Chris!
I’m guessing I’ll be doing most of the same type of stuff as you. Mostly email, content creation and surfing, but I’d like to do a little video editing as well.
Mainly I want something that will give me the freedom to be very mobile. I’ve been a PC guy my whole life, but most PC laptops have terrible battery life (the one I’m on right now is about 1.5hrs) and are kind of clunky. So, I feel pretty restricted.
Thanks!
Hey Chris, really digging the show, glad I found you on iTunes.
I have two quick questions for you about this episode:
1. During the interview you mention two cameras for the advanced users, what were those cameras again?
2. What plugin are you using to post your podcast here? I like the look.
Hi Jonathan
The cameras were the Kodak Zi8 and the Canon DSLR EOS60 – I have both, and the Kodak is great for on the move stuff. The Canon is way sharper, but is bulky, so I tend to use that only when I want really high quality footage, or if I’m shooting in a controlled environment, like my home office, for example.
The plugin I use for my podcast is PowerPress.
Thanks for the comment and let me know if I can help in any other way!
