Short, sweet and to the point today, guys…
I’m on my way to Singapore over the weekend for a little mini-vacation and a few days of decompression with my wife. We like to get away regularly. In the meantime, I wanted to ask one very simple question to get a clear understanding as to the type of people I now have visiting this site.
It’s going to take you exactly TWO CLICKS to give me all the info I need to continue on the right path, and make this site Number One in its niche, going forward into the rest of the year and beyond, so please click below…
[poll id="2"]
The main reason behind this little poll is that I want to start making the content here on the VBL Blog a hell of a lot more focused. Niching it down, baby! I want to continue to help, inspire, educate and support everyones dreams and aspirations. But need to know WHO I am doing this for the most, to fine-tune things a little.
If you have more to say on this subject, along with any ideas – thats awesome!!! Comment section below – you know the deal…!

I voted, and it looks like I’m in the majority…
Sorry I haven’t commented recently Chris, been in Paris the past few days, doing some decompression myself. I loved every minute of it, but it feels good to come back to the blogging multiverse!
Enjoy your time away champ, I hope you drain every single ounce of pleasure out of it. Don’t let me down now
No need to apologize, bud. You’re living life… Thats cool.
The majority… Is now 50/50 (at the time of writing this)… Lets see how things transpire…
Thanks for the comment, bud.

More podcasts and video my friend! Sure I can try to imagine your enthusiasm and energy in the writing but that’s no fun
Hi Derek
You got it, buddy… I intend to make a bit of a shift in the near future.
Stay tuned!
C
Chris, cool voting thingie, I want to do it! What software did you use?
Plugin, bud.
WP-Polls
Enjoy…
Rockin it
interesting poll Chris!
Yes, of COURSE you’re rockin’ it……!!!!!!
I do both so I just had to pick one
Good idea Chris, I need to do more of this myself. Thinking of refocusing my services to inflight entrepreneurs wanting to soar higher rather than start ups.
Chris,
Looks like it’s almost an even split – 53/47 – I’m on the entrepreneur side, out of 9to5 for several years.
Lovin’ it, but not rockin’ it yet; still pushing hard to grow the business so more info on how to create/finance the lifestyle is what I’m looking for.
Thanks,
Michael
Done… took me me 61 secs though
Hehe.
Smart ass!
Love the blog, expanded and expanding my knowledge and mindset … I am doubling my business this year and will be in touch again shortly for VA services
Hi Patrick
Glad to be of service, Sir!
We look forward to working with you on your VA needs, too.
Until then, keep rockin’.
C

I moved to a small town in the country in June 2010, can’t see my neighbours. After enjoying 3 months of during the summer of swimming, boating, etc I managed to get a remote IT contract. I just bid on another one 4 timezones from me and we won the bid. I tell all recruiters that I only work remotely and when they ask the client some are willing to accept these terms. If not it’s fine with me if there are gaps in work where I can do other things like continue to study guitar.
I do some internet marketing of guitar lesson courses, webcam lessons and websites but it doesn’t bring in a lot of income. That would be the ultimate dream as it’s more enjoyable to me but I really can’t complain too much!
Looks like I am in the minority….but I would really like some posts/content on escaping the 9 to 5. It’s my goal to leave it within the year. Either way, I love the content and the site…keep up the great work and enjoy your mini-vacation!
Hi Sharon
Glad you’re enjoying the VBL, thats awesome.
We are working on lots of different content right now, don’t worry, there will be plenty of cool, relevant stuff coming up!
C
I was in a little bit of a quandary over this one Chris. My 60 secs turning into 70 secs lmao…….I’m more or less in the 9-1 grind as I’ve managed to half escape the 9-5 however,…….. I’m not exactly Rockin It.
I’m under and amazing mentor at the moment and with any luck, I’ll be Rockin just like she is
She know’s who she is.
Hi Martha
Well I am glad you came to your decision regardless..!
Glad you’ve also got someone great in your corner, too – it certainly helps. Between that and this blog (self plug over!), you’ve no doubt got it all covered…
Thanks for the comment.
C
Nice poll plugin! Do you use a public plugin or some secret ninja technology
?
Hi Alberto it’s the WP-Polls plugin.
Nothing ninja-like about it, but it is super easy to use. Love it, too.
C
I’m trying to escape the grind. That’s what I voted. Hope it helps. Enjoy your vacation! Have you been to Taipei before? I’m currently here now visiting my girlfriend. I live in Florida.
Hi Chris!
After clicking the “Vote” button, the total number of voters was 100 and game was 50/50
Yes, I’m still working 9-5, but I’m building my online business part-time – goal is to turn it full-time at some point.
Hi Timo, I agree 1000%. Please share with us once you are gonna make it! Meantime I follow your footprints.
Respect
Valerio
Yeah, I also do both, but I guess I am busting my hump in my “free” time to escape the 9-5, so I voted appropriately.
I have been making some pretty big strides in the last couple of weeks though thanks to the outsourcer VBL hooked me up with though…
“VBL Testimonial” is on my “To-DO” list Chris….I swear it!
Hi Adam
All good, buddy. Just work with Steph on things. We’d love to include you on there.
Glad we are igniting that entrepreneurial spirit within you a little more!
C
I was quite surprised to find that the entrepreneurs were a little ahead of the 9-5er’s. That’s encouraging in terms of our country, I think. I am an entrepreneur that is in the fine-tuning phase of my business which will enable me to soar higher. I like your tech info. I need all the help I can get to keep up with technology. I am older and wasn’t raised on computers and cell phones but learned years ago that streamlined technology is the key to marketing in today’s business world.
Ciao Chris, well keep going deep into the niche. Meantime I must confess that I’m still on my way but still exited and inspired. So I read stuff that concern those who work on their own stuff full time to keep me motivated and learn new trends.
Respect ALLways
Valerio
Keep on keepin’ on, my man.
You’ll get there. Your passion is contagious. Love it!
C
I’m blaming myself for signing up for grad school and being too busy trying to finish up instead of figuring out stuff for my blog. Looks like 2 more people are entrepreneurs than still working at it.
Hi Chris, My business is just getting rolling., so I’m not ROCKIN’ yet, but I’m not really a 9-to-5er either. I get “play” jobs like ski instructor, BUT I’m ready to start making some REAL money and just play for FUN not for a little bit of money. I’m looking for your Business Start-up type blogs and looking for ideas for multiple, varied income streams. Can’t wait to see what this brings! Happy mini-vacay!!!
Michelle
Lots coming, RE: biz start-up!
Stay tuned…!!!
Thanks for the great comment, too – good for you.
C
Hey Chris
I guess you fulfill TWO needs for your audience – to provide inspiration for those who are still grinding away that there is an alternative. For those of us who have made an independent business lifestyle a reality – there is never any monopoly on wisdom and we can learn a lot from you, your ideas and the site.
Keep it up!
Thanks
John
Done. Never had a real job in my life… started my business straight out of college. 100% Entrepreneur.
Love it!
Keep it up! Jenny.
C
Hi Chris!
I understand your desire to intensify your focus one way or the other in order to deliver maximal value to your users.
I was one of the first 15 people to vote earlier today, and even then imagined we’d end up around the 50/50 mark.
This brings to mind Malcom Gladwell’s TED Talk on The Perfect Spaghetti sauce:
http://www.ted.com/talks/malcolm_gladwell_on_spaghetti_sauce.html
It’s well worth the watch. The bottom line is that sometimes the best way to dominate your market is not with a single ‘perfect product’, but by offering multiple ‘perfect products’ targeted at different segments of your audience.
Best of luck!
Hey Seth
LOL. Yep – it’s pretty darn close. The next post will be on a monday, so it’ll be interesting to see how it finishes up.
Thanks for the link, essential stuff for all visiting here.
Appreciate the support, buddy.
Thanks!

Bought my 1st business @20 now 25yrs later taking life virtual…no more ties to one place.
From my other experiences with Tyrone Shum I feel people get confused about the whole virtual concept…
…if you employ you are still dealing with people and all the baggage that comes with human race.
What’s worse is that we have our own baggage!!!!
Chris concentrate on giving us actionable tools and the occasional slap up the side of the head when we slip back into mediocrity…
Don’t allow it to become an indulgence whereupon we both think we are doing something by participating.
Nice, Colin. Thanks for the great insights.
I’ll do my best to do exactly that, bud.
Cheers,
C
Is it possible to be doing both?
Good question. I guess ‘yes’, but only partly.
You might be working a 9-5 job, but spending 2-3 hours a night looking to escape the 9-5 and be your own boss… Possibly even making money already.
But, across the board, you’re either one or the other, I feel – except for a few exceptions.
C
Sorry mate,
If it’s the startup phase you’re talking about then you’ve to work your ass off, there is no easy way out such as outsourcing. The focus is to generate revenue, everything else is secondary. Hiring people too early and lack of focus is a sure way to failure, no offense. Realize that in the startup, nobody will help you or believe in you, you’re in a state of war since nobody cares about you, your product or service.
Chris,
I love the question on the poll and had to think for a few seconds to give my answer because what is the clear criteria to move from one to the other.
CRITERIA: I could leave my business for a limited period of time e.g. a week and revenue would still be generated.
Even though I am not 9-5, all revenue is generated through me.
Looking for to having a different answer by my criteria!
Good luck,
Jonathan
I don’t know if either one applies. I’m a stay at home mom that works more than 9-5
but not for pay. I’m working to create my own business that produces a location independent income, but I’m not there yet.
Rachel, I totally understand. I am working for someone else from 8 to 5 and then go home and work 3 to 4 hours on my business. I am working hard to set up a good foundation, since I am expecting a baby in about 3 months
So if I want to make a living and stay home without getting back on the Corporate roller coaster of 70 hours weeks working for someone else, then I have to stay focused like you are.
I am slowly getting there as well!
Sharon
Hi Rachel
Indeed, being a Mom is certainly a full-time job. I’m happy to hear that you’re putting together other things, too.
As a father of three myself, I have a couple of ideas up my sleeve for wannabe passive income earners that are already parents! Stay tuned.
