It seems that wherever you look online right now, everyone is talking about outsourcing. Obviously, it’s a topic that we discuss regularly here on the blog, and it will continue to be, as it’s one of the 4 Core Subjects for the Virtual Business Lifestyle. So, today’s post is actually a video that I shot late last year with a client of my virtual assistant business, Frank ‘Trey’ Bishop, where we discuss his Virtual Assistant experience. The video was originally posted at my old personal blog (hence the chrisducker.com reference!) and considering it got very little traffic, I thought it would make for interesting viewing for you VBL followers out there. Trey has partnered with our virtual assistant business for around a year or so now and has some very interesting comments on working with his virtual assistant.
The video was shot on a US trip I made in late 2009 and Trey was gracious enough to invite myself and my wife to his home, and I asked if we could shoot this quick video to perhaps enlighten some other entrepreneurs on what it means to work with a VA and the benefits involved in taking advantage of a virtual assistant business. He was happy to oblige. I must say, the interview is very raw, completely unedited, and a good bit of fun too.
As you can tell, using a VA has helped Trey a lot in gaining more time with his clients, on his golf game, and generally being able to focus more on the important parts of running his business. It can be the same for you too. You can be as wise as Trey in considering what a virtual assistant business can offer.
With such a buzz on outsourcing online at the moment, I’d love to hear more from you guys in terms of anything you might like to know or have questions on. In related news, I was extremely happy and a little shocked to find out that I was recently featured on the cover of ‘Globalization Today’ magazine, which is the outsourcing industry’s main voice. So I’m feeling slightly warmer and a little fuzzier than usual on the subject of outsourcing in general right now!
That’s me, the bottom left ‘star’!
It’s astonishing to see that an industry sector, such as outsourcing, which has been around for as long as it has, is getting as much ‘new’ publicity as it is and has been over the last few years. Yes, a certain amount of it might be down to Mr. Ferriss and his cool book, but I reckon it is YOU LOT—the hardworking business owners, and entrepreneurs out there, simply getting better with age (like a fine bottle of plonk!) at running their businesses, coming up with great projects to work on, and finding ways of being able to kick ass and take names in new cost-effective and highly cool ways.
I take my hat off to you all!
As regular visitors to the blog will know, I do shoot a certain amount of video clips and there will be more in the future. So, be sure to subscribe to the blog via its RSS feed or its email feed so you don’t miss anything.

Hi Chris,
Cool post. Good to see how your clients are working out.
I am in the process of looking to hire my first full time VA. I have used sites like elance etc, but I just got spammed by John Reese’s videos for his new outsourcing product (im not going to buy it) and started thinking. i could probably use a full time VA
So I sat down and wrote down all the things I thought i could get the VA to do and very easily and quickly built a enough tasks to warrant a full time assistant. I was a little concerned with John’s model of finding some random person tho because I need a full time personal assistant, not to out source my technical development or design. I want a little more security in my assistant.
So what do you think the process should be to finding your first full time VA?
I actually requested a quote from your company a few days ago and havent heard back
Hi Vinay
First of all, thank you for your comment. It is much appreciated.
Yes, I have also been spammed by John’s team (how the hell do they get our email addresses!?), and did not like the way he put people off using outsourcing providers. But, its his opinion and he is able to have it, of course.
We are actually in the process of putting together a freelance VA program – but, its realistically a couple of months away.
The way you have planned out your tasks thus far is a great starting point and motivator. Good job!
In regards to not hearing back from my guys – this surprises me, as they usually jump all over incoming leads!!! Tell you what – send me a quick message via the ‘contact’ page here, with your number, and I will give you a quick buzz personally.

PS. If you havent already done so, check out my “How to Identify a Professional Outsourcing Partner” post. I think you might also find it helpful! Its linked above in the ‘related posts’ section.
If you don’t think you need a full time VA, can you start with some part time help while you figure out where else you can use help? I know I can’t utilize a full time but I think I can benefit from part time help.
Hey Ralph!
You absolutely can start with a part-time VA. The large majority of the freelance VAs I have come across are more than happy to work on a part-time basis with their virtual bosses.
They will obviously be working with other people, too – but, that will change once you go from a PT to FT set-up. Working on a PT basis is a great way to test the water and see how things go.
Check out http://www.freelancer.com – who have now surpassed eLance.
Let me know how it goes.
Chris
Solid advice Chris! Just finished school – woot woot! Once things get moving I’m definitely looking to get a full-time VA!
Hi Tony
Congrat’s. I’m sure you did awesomely, buddy.
When you’re ready for that VA, let me know – I’ll help you out, my man.
Chris
I can totally relate to your client – Trey. Few months ago I was actually travelling from place to place and good thing I read this blog post of yours and decided to hire a VA to do the job I’ll be leaving for months. It turned out great! My VA updates me every day, gives me some ideas to improve things I assigned to her, and we became totally open to each other. I tell you guys, you better get a VA and it would be best if you get it from Chris’s virtual assistant business. I actually didn’t get my VA from a virtual assistant business but Chris’s virtual staff finder, I believe, would be a great choice.
