Embracing Cloud Computing for a Virtual Business Lifestyle

In the true spirit of virtualness (is that actually a real word – if not, it IS NOW!) and mobility in generally, this is a Guest Post by Phil Montero of TheAnywhereOffice.com.

Phil and I have been talking for a while now, ever since we met via Twitter. And it was quite obvious from the get-go that we had a lot in common in regards to the lifestyles we both wanted to lead and the way we wanted to work as business owners and entrepreneurs in general. So, after I did a guest post for Phil on Multitasking I was quick to ask him to do the same, and I must say he totally outdid himself with this excellent 6min video.

The thing I personally love about this subject matter is that it is ever-evolving. Although there is the regular diet of Gmail, Google Docs and the like, the fact of the matter is that there is always something new cropping up here and there. Some of the things Phil discusses in his post include include:

  • Calendars
  • Email
  • Contacts
  • To-Do Lists
  • Conferences
  • File Storage
  • Much More!

Cloud Computing as a topic isn’t anything new. And neither is the idea of working remotely, or on the move. However, it seems that over the last 3-5 years people, especially entrepreneurial types, have become increasingly interested with the ‘virtual way of life’ that is available to them, because of the internet. Trust me, you certainly wont have a lack of reading material online in regards to the subject, that’s for sure.

I’d like to thank Phil for a great guest post, plus let him know that I am extremely jealous of the backdrop he has used in this video – not to mention the heated pool in several of his others! Guys, be sure to check out Phil’s site and his excellent free resource “The Anywhere Office Toolbox”, which can be downloaded on the site!

  1. Interesting advice here. I actually haven’t heard about cloud computing at all. It’s still an interesting idea though.

But at the moment I don’t think that I need to rely on it.

    • Hi Julius

      Thanks for commenting, buddy.

Yep – CC is not for everyone. But, I am assuming heavily that at some point in the future, you WILL get involved in it, in some way, shape or form – we all will.

      Cheers, Chris

  2. Hey Chris,

Thanks so much for inviting me to make this video post for you and the virtual business lifestyle tribe.

Working virtually and the technology that empowers it is indeed an ever-evolving topic as you suggested. That’s what makes it so fun. It’s exciting to see how a new tool or service can literally change the way you work when wielded properly – and in our hands it’s allowing us to work from anywhere – huzzah to that!

By the way you’re welcome to hang out in my yard (where I’m working from right now) and and enjoy my backdrop and pool next time you are in the states my friend. We’ll film a video with both of use sipping happy hour drinks chillin – LOL!

  3. You have to love Google! I’m starting to use it for everything. The idea is to be able to log in any computer (not just yours) and be able to do work.

    Thanks for the tips Phil

    • Sure thing Tony! You are right to be able to login from any computer and access your important info and be productive – now that is working the web!

Google does offer an amazing set of free tools and they integrate well together.

      Phil

    • Hi Tony

I caught your video on Google Apps, too – great stuff. I am putting together a resources page, and will be sure to include it.

      Thanks for the comment, bud.

  5. Awesome toolbox, good share! and well said that this is an evolving medium, don’t forget to keep things at their core a simple universal process!

    • Hi Rob

Good to see you popping by, bud.

Yep, Phil got some great stuff going on – hoping to get him back for another post in the future.

Hope all is well with you.

      Chris

    • Hey Robert,

Thanks glad you found value in the toolbox. I’m constantly testing and playing with these type of tools so I figured it made sense to pull together the best ones I’ve found.

Just checked out your website and loved it! Gonna take your advice and integrate Google Analytics right into Wordpress – what a time saver – thanks!

      Phil

  6. Great guest post here Phil. I’m going to check out your site, sounds like a lot of useful content here.

Some good advice here. I certainly find it useful to use my iPhone as if I were on my MacBook and have access to the files.
