Location: Starbucks, Cebu – Reading / Viewing Time: 6-7mins
This is a guest post from online buddy and motivational speaker, Ben Lumley over at 6Aliens.com.
I asked Ben to put this post together as I don’t really touch on the more ‘motivational’ side of blogging all that often (it’s just not my bag, baby – said in my best Austin Powers voice!). Ben has some very cool ways of breaking things down, in terms of turning life into a simple process, and some of what he says in this video really resonates with stuff that I hear from people all the time – both on a business AND personal setting.
I particularly like his take on answering questions in the right sequence to be able to get to the next section of the question, and its subsequent ‘correct’ answer. Seriously… Check this out half way through the video. How many times have you come across something that concerns you (whatever it is), and you start worrying and freaking out over it, for it to only be taken care of by the time you’ve answered the first couple of bits to the question.
I often talk about this when I am training sales people. They tend to be too consumed with the ‘close’ part of the sales process. But, I very keenly point out that if they have followed the other parts of the process, such as building rapport, asking the right questions, overcoming objections, etc., in the right sequence then the close, nine times out of ten, actually happens on its own (in some way) – because it is literally just the natural conclusion to the sales process.
I hope you enjoy this post, and feel free to leave your questions or comments for Ben below, and be sure to go on over to his blog and see some more of his stuff, I am never disappointed when I travel over there, and always end up reading at least a couple of his posts at a time.

Hey Chris.
Just wanted to say (another) big thank you for letting me do this video for you
No problem, Ben.
Absolutely my pleasure…!
One foot in front of the either, pointed in the right direction = getting the process completed.
More great advice Ben!
Hi Mick
Thanks for stopping by, and commenting. Welcome to the VBL!
Yep – got another video coming from Ben soon, too…
Regards from the Philippines.
Chris
Thanks Mick. Glad you enjoyed it.
One step follows another
Hi Chris,
Thanks for asking Ben to guest post for you. Great post.
Hi Ben,
As always….good stuff.
A little saying that I use quite often with my clients when they are starting out in a new business or a new project is to take the ‘Make one, sell one’ approach. It helps them boil down what needs to be done to its essential bits and is all about generating momentum.
Thanks again,
Adrian
Hi Adrian – Nice to see you hear.
Indeed, a great post. Ben strikes home on a number of important issues.
Momentum – its a beautiful thing!!!
Chris
Hi Adrian
Glad you found Chris here. It’s such a cool place!
Yep love the “make one, sell one” approach. You’ve just got to stay the right path and keep stepping.
Using climbing as an example (cos I know you like climbing), you can also scale that wall of rock by taking it at a hand hold or foot hold at a time. Correct?
Resonates with what I always say…
Baby Steps, baby steps…
Thanks again for a great post, Ben!
