Location: Home Office – Reading / Viewing Time: 4-5mins
I shot this video as a “I’m here, so I might as well shoot another…” type of clip when I was filming my Top Ten Virtual Assistant Video Tips a couple of weeks ago, from the island of Boracay here in the Philippines. I have to be honest, after looking at it the first time, I wasn’t going to publish it.
But, I looked over it on Friday, with the weekend approaching, and thought that I would post it for the beginning of the week as a little ‘inspiration’ if nothing else.
I am extremely fortunate to be able to live the lifestyle that I currently (and hope to continue!) living. However, it’s not one that has come about overnight. I have worked extremely hard to be able to:
- Work a 4-day week only
- Travel regularly
- Spend more time with family
- Empty my mind more
- Continue to grow my business
- Work on new opportunities
And of course, I continue to work hard, but just in different ways and with different processes in place to enable the ‘virtual’ part of my business life.
As some of you will remember, my goal for 2010 is to become a Full Time Virtual CEO, and if the first quarter of the year is anything to go on, I believe I will achieve that goal. I believe the main reason behind this is because I am 110% focused on making it happen. For all of the reasons stated above, and a whole lot more.
The fact that you guys come along to the blog regularly and listen to me waffle on, humbles me unbelievably. Seriously. And I look forward to continuing to create the absolute best content I can, whether it’s written word or in the medium of video, which I am starting to prefer, to be honest.
And once I do achieve my goal, I promise that there will be something VERY special for all of you, as a way to say thank you for your support, feedback and help throughout the course of the year. I have no idea what it is yet, honestly, but you’ll deserve it, whatever it turns out to be!
So, sit down today and evaluate where you want to be in life. Not just now, but 6 months from now – a year from now. Whatever the case may be. Write it down, record it on your computer, shoot a video or even publish your own blog as a way to keep track on your goal.
And then WORK HARD to achieve it. Good luck to us all…

Chris – I found your website recently and have enjoyed your postings and podcasts. I’m interested to know if you have any experience w/ VAs working in a small insurance agency environment (particularly life/health insurance vs. “multi-lines;” i.e., auto, fire, etc.). We (my son & I) get bogged down w/ servicing our clients (claims “issues,” add/delete people to their benefits, etc.) which often consumes a large part of the day. Any thoughts, ideas, or experiences that might be relevant?
Hi Art
VA’s can fit into ANY industry sector. The fact of the matter is that if you spend spend training them (like you would admin support staff internally), then they will be able to perform the tasks that you need/want them too.
Way too often people dont ‘take the leap’ and try working with virtual staff because they feel they wont ‘get it’. This couldnt be any further from the truth, I believe.
Try it out, and let me know how you go, buddy.
Thanks for dropping by and showing interest!
Best, Chris
Dude – one of my new goals in life is to join you for one of those drinks in a pool like that!
I’m off to create an affirmation for it now!
Hi Ben
Awesome. You let me know when youre coming over, and I will make sure that the Screwdrivers are ready, my friend…!
Chris
Great video Chris – looks like you are very relaxed and having a great time! I couldn’t agree more with what you are saying about designing your business in order to have the lifestyle you want. It very easy to get so caught up in the day-to-day grind of running your business that you forget what’s important – spending time with family and friends.
One of the things I have been working on is taking a step back and allowing things to happen in my business without feeling I need to “make them happen” all the time. I have found this to be challenging so far but I know it is a critical step in growing as an entrepreneur.
Cheers to you my friend!
Phil
Hey there, Phil.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting. Man, that trip was AWESOME, I can tell you…
Family is what it is ALL about. Always has been, and always will be. The fact is, however, that over the last few years I have found myself getting more and more bogged down at work, and working longer hours as the Live2Sell Group expands. This year, as you can see by the content on the blog, I am re-prioritizing my life.
I want to make it clear (as several of my clients read the blog!) that this doesnt mean that I am taking my eyes off my business. In fact, quite the contrary, as I am looking at it more closely, in order to be able to create more systems and to be able to automate a lot more of the business operations to become less required at the office – with that ultimate goal of becoming a Full-Time Virtual CEO by the end of the year.
Keep us all up to date with YOUR progress, too, buddy!
Thanks, Chris
I agree about being able to complete more tasks and projects on vacation than working on a normal office setting. I finished more articles during my vacation in my mom’s hometown in Abra than staying in the office in Iloilo. You should consider working on your ebook in Palawan,I’d bet you’d finish more than you’ve done in Boracay! You will sure experience much more “clean air” and laid back setting there, minus the night life though. haha
You sound like John Jonas enjoying the 4-hour work week like Tim Ferris. And reminds me of what Penelope Trunk has been saying about having accomplished more in Madison, WI than in NY. Now it doesn’t mean that people should go to remote places to be able to accomplish a lot of things. However, it’s about knowing what you want to accomplish, strategizing, planning and knowing when to delegate the tasks. I guess that’s one secret that most people that learn the magic of outsourcing that most people haven’t stumbled upon.
Hi Jonha
John certainly seems to be doing well for himself. You’re right, you dont have to go to remote areas and locations to get more done. However, its personally preference, obviously. If you WANT to be a little untouchable and in the middle of no where, and you feel you’ll get more done like that, then go for it!
Thanks for your comments. Very interesting…
Chris
Definitely keep up the great progress you’ve made towards achieving your goal. Reading posts like this of people working hard towards their goals (financial freedom, reducing working hours, etc.) and making noticeable strides really motivates me and keeps me on the path of reaching my own goals. I’m not able to view your videos while at work like I can with written content, but at least it gives more something to look forward to when I get home!
Hi Richard
Thanks for the comment – really appreciate the feedback, buddy.
Let me know what you think of the videos when you get a chance! And more importantly, let us all know how you do towards achieving your own goals this year!
Cheers,
Chris
I love you mate. I hope I can reach the same one time… I’m working on that
Thanks for all the great hints and tips, and – of course – the videos which are pushing me to reach my goals, too
